This season hasn't been kind to the Mitchell Marauders, who are still winless after their 11th contest. They had to suffer through a rough 59-23 loss at the hands of Elizabeth. Mitchell has struggled against Elizabeth recently, as their game on Wednesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Mitchell lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jayciona Fisher. Despite the final result, she scored eight points along with five rebounds and five steals. Jessica Romero was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with two steals and two blocks.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Mitchell struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Elizabeth racked up 20 assists.
Elizabeth's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from London Machado, who scored 22 points along with five steals. That's the first time this season that Machado scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Jordan Martinez, who scored six points along with ten steals and nine rebounds.
Mitchell's defeat was their 19th straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 0-11. As for Elizabeth, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mitchell will take on Pueblo County at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Pueblo County presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Mitchell in Colorado (Pueblo County is ranked 121st, while Mitchell is ranked 321st). As for Elizabeth, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Sierra at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Sierra focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Saturday.
