This season hasn't been kind to The Westside Wolverines, who are still winless after their ninth match. They were just a hair shy of victory on Friday and fell 27-26 to Englewood. The matchup was a 14-14 toss-up at halftime, but Westside was just barely outscored by Englewood in the second.
Englewood's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Anthony Brown led the charge by rushing for 105 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 71 yards and a touchdown. Brown was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 55 yards. Malik Neely and his 96 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Englewood's victory.
Westside's defeat was their seventh straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-9. As for Englewood, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
Westside will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on Raines at 6:30 p.m. on November 3rd. As for Englewood, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Parker at 6:30 p.m. Parker comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
