Basketball Recap: Northview Piles Up the Points Against Speedway

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Northview walked away with it. They took their match on Saturday with ease, bagging a 70-40 win over the Speedway Sparkplugs. The Knights have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 games by 23 points or more this season.

Brayden Goff was his usual excellent self, going 7-for-14 en route to 20 points along with six boards and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Perry, who shot 50% from the field on his way to 12 points and seven rebounds.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Northview was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Speedway only seven assists.

Despite the loss, Speedway still got an impressive performance from Drew Matelic, who went 8-for-13 to rack up 19 points and five boards. What's more, Matelic also posted a 67% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in January. Another player making a difference was Camden Bennett, who posted four points and five rebounds.

The victory made it two in a row for Northview and bumps their season record up to 24-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.5 points over those games. As for Speedway, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 12 of their last 13 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-20 record this season.

Northview will face off against Indianapolis Crispus Attucks at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Indianapolis Crispus Attucks is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66.2 points per game this season. Speedway does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
