Scotts Valley is 9-1 against Santa Cruz since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Falcons will take on the Cardinals at 11:00 a.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Scotts Valley has 11 straight victories, Santa Cruz has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times Scotts Valley and San Lorenzo Valley have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Thursday. The Falcons came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 5-2.
Sofie Seese spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jazzy Doubek, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Santa Cruz fell victim to Aptos and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 16-0 to the Mariners.
Santa Cruz saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tezdyn Medina-Mates, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Scotts Valley's win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-5-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Santa Cruz, their loss dropped their record down to 7-15.
Saturday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Scotts Valley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like Santa Cruz struggles in that department as they've averaged .346. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Scotts Valley's way against Santa Cruz when the teams last played last Thursday, as Scotts Valley made off with a 17-6 win. Will the Falcons repeat their success, or do the Cardinals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
