Winfield extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 1-9. They came up short against Warrenton, falling 14-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Winfield has suffered against Warrenton since April 7, 2023.
Timothy Emmons put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Brady Cappel was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. Daniel Warren also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.
As for Warrenton, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games.
Like Winfield, Warrenton also got a great game from a two-way player: Jake Kirkpatrick. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. Kirkpatrick also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Warrenton is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-7 otherwise. Kirkpatrick was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs and one RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Ric Standley was a standout: he went 3-for-6 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. He has become a key player for Warrenton: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 5-7 otherwise. Keeton Young was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Looking ahead, Winfield will head out on the road to face off against St. Charles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Warrenton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Montgomery County at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
