The Keyser Golden Tornado will be playing in front of their home fans against the Moorefield Yellow Jackets at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Keyser suffered their closest loss yet this season on Wednesday. They fell just short of Mountain Ridge by a score of 52-50. Keyser has not had much luck with Mountain Ridge recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Loss or not, Keyser got some senior leadership from Chase Davis and Patrick Liller. Davis scored 18 points along with four steals, while Liller. scored 12 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Davis has scored all season. Jack Stanislawczyk was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five assists and two steals.
Keyser struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Moorefield's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight loss. They took a hard 55-38 fall against East Hardy. While losing is never fun, Moorefield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 100th, while East Hardy is ranked 17th).
Keyser has fallen quite a ways from their 17-8 record last season and are now at 4-7. As for Moorefield, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.
Keyser was able to grind out a solid win over Moorefield when the teams last played back in December of 2023, winning 60-53. Will Keyser repeat their success, or does Moorefield have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
