The Douglass Indians have been a dominant force so far but will be looking to break out of a two-game mini slump. They lost to Paradise at home by a decisive 60-45 margin on Friday. Douglass lost against Paradise in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 53-49 score last time.
Leading Paradise to victory were Rylee Nichols and Gazey Yates. Nichols scored 14 points along with 8 rebounds and 4 steals, while Yates scored 23 points. That makes it two consecutive games in which Yates has scored at least 25% of Paradise's points. Channing Beauvais was another key contributor, scoring 5 points along with 8 rebounds.
Douglass' defeat was their fifth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 9-3. Despite that those victories, the team's offense hasn't been rolling: across that stretch, they only averaged 7.2 points per game. As for Paradise, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.
Douglass will take on Christoval at 10:50 a.m. on Saturday. Christoval will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 328th, while Douglass is ranked 127th). Paradise will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Borden County at 12:00 p.m. on December 1st.
