Video: Collin Sexton highlights and interviewScoring point guard was must-see TV at Pebblebrook.
In what could be a post-King James rebuilding phase, Sexton obviously won't be replacing LeBron's production or winning touch, but he is capable of keeping the entertainment value high for Cleveland fans.
The 6-foot-2 guard was worth the price of admission at Alabama and during his high school days in Georgia. But will his style play in the NBA?
Read on for a closer look at what Sexton's high school career might tell us about his NBA future.
Prospect Report Card — Collin Sexton High School Record: 44-18 in two seasons at
Pebblebrook (Mableton, Ga.), 47-15 in two seasons at
Hillgrove (Powder Springs, Ga.).
Stats/Accomplishments: While the schedule was brutal for Pebblebrook during Sexton's senior year in 2016-17, the Falcons didn't quite live up to their billing. A preseason national Top 25 team, Pebblebrook scuffled to a 21-8 record and was blown out by Norcross in the state quarterfinals. He showed off his scoring ability by averaging 32.6 points per game, but it didn't translate to high-level success for Pebblebrook. Sexton went on to win the dunk contest at the McDonald's All-American Game, displaying incredible athleticism that offsets his lack of prototype size and length.
Outstanding Achievement: Going beyond the high school and club circuit, Sexton's brightest moment came during the summer of 2016 while representing the United States at the FIBA U17 World Championship in Spain. Playing alongside fellow 2018 NBA Draft prospects Wendell Carter Jr., Jaren Jackson Jr., Kevin Knox and Gary Trent Jr., it was Sexton walking away with MVP honors after leading the USA to a gold medal with averages of 17.0 points and 4.1 assists per game.
Needs Work: As a freshman at Alabama, Sexton once again put up good numbers (19.2 points, 3.6 assists per game) for an underwhelming team ('Bama finished 20-16). He's a unique, creative talent but dialing back a bit of the flash and flare, cutting down on turnovers and becoming a more efficient player would do wonders for the success of whatever team he goes to.
Best Fit: Owners of the No. 9 overall pick, the Knicks need help in the backcourt and Sexton could be the answer. His showmanship could be a big hit for the fans at Madison Square Garden.
