It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Gospel Light Christian ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Union Grove Christian and snuck past 52-49. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up seven more assists than your opponent, as Gospel Light Christian did.
Gospel Light Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Samuel Sisk led the charge by scoring 16 points along with six steals. Another player making a difference was Drake Walker, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds.
Despite the loss, Union Grove Christian still got an impressive performance from Colin Wykes, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds. Wykes is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last 19 games he's played. Ethan Smith was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Gospel Light Christian's win bumped their record up to 13-6. As for Union Grove Christian, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 22-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gospel Light Christian is on the road again on Monday and plays the Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on January 29th. As for Union Grove Christian, they will challenge the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Faith Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 519th, while the Patriots are ranked 180th).
