PHELAN, Calif. -
Serrano (Phelan, Calif.) received a huge boost from its defense against Hesperia (Calif.), as the unit scored 12 in defeating Hesperia (Calif.), 63-14.
The Diamondbacks were up 49-7 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Daniel Epperson in the first quarter.
Serrano expanded its lead to 49 points entering the fourth quarter. SHS scored two times in the third, including once on a Epperson touchdown pass to
DeAndre Williams.
Epperson was one of the big reasons the Phelan school got the victory, as he threw four touchdowns.
Epperson played well for the Diamondbacks in the victory. He ran for one touchdown.
Serrano had given up an average of 10.8 points prior to the contest. The 14 points that the Scorpions ended with were well below their average of 22.6 coming into the game.
When the two teams played each other last season, SHS came away with a 48-10 victory.
In a Mojave River game next week Serrano (9-0) takes on Apple Valley, and Hesperia (4-5) will go up against Sultana also in a Mojave River game.
