The East Limestone Indians will head out to square off against the Priceville Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The last five games East Limestone has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
East Limestone took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against James Clemens, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. East Limestone had just enough and edged out James Clemens 6-5. That's two games straight that the Indians have won by just one run.
Lara Looney made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
Looney wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kailey Matthews, who went 1-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Priceville). They were the clear victor by a 14-3 margin over Brewer on Tuesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Bulldogs with their most commanding win of the season.
Like East Limestone, Priceville also got a great game from a two-way player: Elizabeth Murphy. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Murphy was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Those runs marked the first that she scored this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kelsey Green, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those RBI were her first of the season. Peyton Goss was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Priceville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
East Limestone's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 12-5. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 3.25 runs. As for Priceville, their record now sits at 6-9.
East Limestone skirted past Priceville 2-1 in their previous matchup last Tuesday. The rematch might be a little tougher for East Limestone since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
