It was a good run, but the Oxford Pirates unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of Uxbridge by a score of 52-50. While losing is never fun, Oxford can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts basketball rankings (they are ranked 163rd, while Uxbridge is ranked 29th).
Despite the loss, Oxford still got an impressive performance from Brady Marqoupis, who scored 26 points. That was a full 52% of Oxford's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Andruw Martinez was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Leading Uxbridge to victory were Ethan Mccusker and Colin Spencer. Mccusker scored 13 points, while Spencer scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Blood, who scored eight points.
Oxford now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Uxbridge, they pushed their record up to 7-2 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oxford on the road again on Tuesday and play against Assabet Valley RVT at 5:30 p.m. on January 16th. Assabet Valley RVT is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Uxbridge, they will head out on the road to take on Northbridge at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
