Port Clinton had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 3-9 to make it five. They lost 18-7 to the Danbury Lakers. If the Redskins were looking for revenge after losing 5-0 to the Lakers when the teams met back in April of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Derek Abernathy was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Zayden Zapata, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
As for Danbury, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-5. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by seven runs or more this season.
On Danbury's side, Taylor Monak was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Danbury is undefeated when Monak allows one or fewer earned runs, but 2-5 otherwise. Monak was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Danbury got a massive performance out of Croix Waldron, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Waldron has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Miles McDonald, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Port Clinton will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Old Fort at 4:45 p.m. The Stockaders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.78 runs per game on average), something the Redskins will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Danbury, they are taking a road trip to challenge Northwood at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
