Softball Recap: Chadwick Takes a Loss

Chadwick had lost four straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 3-10 to make it five. They lost 11-3 to the Providence Pioneers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pioneers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 23-3 two weeks ago.

Sammy Santa Ana was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off only two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than 11 strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

Santa Ana wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Dami Ogundimu, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was Ogundimu's first of the season.

As for Providence, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Considering they have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Like Chadwick, Providence also got a great game from a two-way player: Madelynn Watts. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). Watts was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Evangelina Aleman was a standout: she got on base in three of her five plate appearances with four RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Gloria Galindo was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Chadwick will take on rival Rio Hondo Prep at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Providence is set to square off against their familiar foe Flintridge Prep at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
