It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Holy Cross had no problem doing just that on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Tri-Valley Bulldogs 3-2. The victory was nothing new for the Crusaders as they're now sitting on 14 straight.
AVA SCHMIDT made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off nine hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one double.
In other batting news, PEYTON GRABOSKE was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was CLAIRE HELRING, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Holy Cross pushed their record up to 21-1 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games. As for Tri-Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-7.
As of now, neither Holy Cross nor the Bulldogs have any future games scheduled.
