After a string of four wins, Cape Hatteras' good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a hard 58-39 fall against Bear Grass Charter. Cape Hatteras found out winning isn't easy when you make six fewer threes than your opponent.
Despite their loss, Cape Hatteras saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Abby O'Neal, who scored eight points along with 13 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. O'Neal is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Paizley Schultz, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Mattamuskeet's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 51-7 loss at the hands of Bear Grass Charter. While losing is never fun, Mattamuskeet can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 590th, while Bear Grass Charter is ranked 242nd).
Cape Hatteras' defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-7. As for Mattamuskeet, their defeat was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-14.
Everything came up roses for Cape Hatteras against Mattamuskeet in their previous meeting back in January as the team secured a 59-14 win. With Cape Hatteras ahead 30-7 at the half, the match was all but over already.
