The Crookston Pirates's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They were dealt a 72-36 loss at the hands of Perham. While losing is never fun, Crookston can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 312th, while Perham is ranked 23rd).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Perham to victory, but perhaps none more so than Willow Thiel, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 rebounds. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which Thiel has scored at least 25% of Perham's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaia Anderson, who scored 15 points along with three steals.
Crookston's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 2-7. As for Perham, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Crookston will take on Sacred Heart at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Sacred Heart's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Perham, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Breckenridge at 7:30 p.m.
