New Dimensions had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 37.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They came out on top against International Community by a score of 61-51. Given New Dimensions' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 230th, while International Community is ranked 620th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
New Dimensions' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jeriel Martinez led the charge by scoring 21 points. The matchup was Martinez's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Carrasquillo , who scored 17 points.
Despite the loss, International Community still got an impressive performance from Gavin Philips, who scored 15 points along with 5 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Kaminski Cordeiro, who scored 8 points.
New Dimensions' win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for International Community, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. New Dimensions will take on Lakeland Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. International Community and Hope Academy will face off at 7:00 p.m. on December 11th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hope Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten matches -- so hopefully International Community likes a good challenge.
