The Mendota Aztecs extended their postseason success on Friday against the Fowler Redcats. They came out on top against the Redcats by a score of 56-44. Winning may never get old, but Mendota sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Leading Mendota to victory were Jesse Rodriguez and Donnie Munoz. Rodriguez rushed for 201 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.1 yards per carry, while Munoz rushed for 257 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.7 yards per carry. Munoz was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 59 yards.
Despite the loss, Fowler still got an impressive performance from Jerod Bubba smith, who rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries, and also threw for 237 yards and four touchdowns. ?hristopher Hooks was another key contributor, picking up 83 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Mendota pushed their record up to 7-6 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 38.3 points per game. As for Fowler, they now have a losing record at 6-7.
Mendota will play host again and welcome Strathmore, where kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Strathmore's defense has only allowed 14.2 points per game this season, so Mendota's offense will have their work cut out for Mendota. Fowler does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
