It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 34-9 win. Considering Cardinal Gibbons has won six matches by more than 19 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Among those leading the charge was Patrick Anderson jr., who rushed for 155 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries. Anderson jr. was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 61 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Merdinger, who threw for 276 yards and a touchdown.
Calvary Christian Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Yohan-li Louis and Cecil Stone. Louis gained 161 total yards, while Stone rushed for 19 yards and a touchdown.
Cardinal Gibbons has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Calvary Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.
Cardinal Gibbons will head out on the road to face off against American Heritage at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. American Heritage will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak. Calvary Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
