The Larned Indians were the 49-35 winner over the Nickerson Panthers when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Larned took a hard 57-42 fall against Nickerson on Friday.
Nickerson found their leader in underclassman Riley Brawner, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Brawner has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Taylor Engelland, who scored nine points.
Larned bumped their record down to 2-7-1 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Nickerson, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Larned won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Central Plains on January 20th. Central Plains presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Larned in Kansas (Central Plains is ranked 85th, while Larned is ranked 234th). As for Nickerson, they will head out on the road to take on Kingman at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
