The Huntingtown Hurricanes can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent game on Thursday. They breezed by Calvert at home to the tune of 49-14. The win was familiar territory for Huntingtown who now have three in a row.
Huntingtown was led to victory by Kayla Ripple and Eva Powell. Ripple scored 11 points along with three steals, while Powell dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. Powell has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Samantha Yuen, who scored four points along with six assists and three steals.
Despite the defeat, Calvert saw an underclassman step up: Hannah Graham scored four points along with six rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Calvert struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Huntingtown racked up 15 assists.
Huntingtown's win bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Calvert, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.
Huntingtown will head out on the road to square off against Patuxent at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Patuxent focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 on Friday. As for Calvert, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Chopticon at 6:30 p.m.
