Heritage extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to eight on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-5. They lost 12-3 to the Vero Beach Indians. On the bright side, the three- run performance marked the Panthers' highest-scoring matchup to date.
Heritage saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kethziel Torres, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
As for Vero Beach, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-1. Considering they have won three contests by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
On Vero Beach's side, Nate Downey was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Downey was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two doubles.
In other pitching news, Colt Miller looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk).
Back at the plate, Vero Beach let Charles Singletary and Caleb Wood run wild. Singletary went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Wood went 2-for-3 with one home run and one triple. Singletary also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Hudson Schlitt was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Heritage will head out to challenge Space Coast at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Vero Beach, they will venture away from home to face off against Merritt Island at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
