Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Lathan Wilborn and Kayden Dunkins Lead Cape Fear Christian Academy to Victory

Cape Fear Christian Academy lost to West Johnston back in December of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Cape Fear Christian Academy Eagles snuck past the West Johnston Wildcats with a 52-47 victory. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 209th, while the Wildcats are ranked 431st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Cape Fear Christian Academy to victory were Kayden Dunkins and Lathan Wilborn. Dunkins dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards, while Wilborn dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. Wilborn is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Caden Scarborough, who posted nine points and six assists.

When it comes to explaining why West Johnston lost, don't look at Noah Ellington. Despite the final result, he went 7 of 13 on his way to 18 points. Christian McFall was another key player, putting up six points.

Cape Fear Christian Academy's record is now 12-3. As for West Johnston, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Cape Fear Christian Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 66-43 loss against Cleveland on the 27th. As for West Johnston, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-40 win against Nash Central on the 27th.
