Edgewater is on a seven-game streak of home wins, while Jones is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Edgewater Eagles will take on the Jones Fightin' Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Edgewater had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They took their contest at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 37-6 win over First Coast. With Edgewater ahead 23-0 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Among those leading the charge was Kaden Shields-Dutton, who rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries. Shields-Dutton has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last six times he's played. Sir Semaj Fleming was in the mix as well, providing Edgewater with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Jones made easy work of Oviedo on Friday and carried off a 33-7 win. Given Jones' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 18th, while Oviedo is ranked 93rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Jones to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jerrian Parker, who rushed for 169 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.9 yards per carry. Parker hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for three straight games. Trever Jackson was another key contributor, rushing for 69 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries.
Their wins bumped Edgewater to 11-0 and Jones to 8-3.
Edgewater strolled past Jones in their previous matchup back in September by a score of 31-14. Will Edgewater repeat their success, or does Jones have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
