3A Northern recap September 10, 2013
Tristen Lyle and Matthew Erb provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Berthoud. The connection was good for 109 yards, the longest such play in 3A Northern this season.
Holy Family scaled the state rankings by moving to 35 from 65 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Tigers were able to make move up by beating D'Evelyn 42-7.
Thomas Jefferson's dynamic duo of Taden Blaise and Dylan Holt proved tough for Kennedy to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Blaise threw for 285 yards and 3 touchdowns and Holt had 110 yards receiving. Obed Munoz helped Thomas Jefferson's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 50 yards.
The Spartans' dynamic duo of Blaise and Holt proved to be unstoppable against the Commanders, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
David Sommers was a passing and rushing force as Holy Family beat the Jaguars. He completed 10 passes for 181 yards and also ran for 151 yards. Sommers' favorite target this week was Erb, who caught 5 passes for 108 yards.
Holt was the best wideout in the league this week as Thomas Jefferson topped Kennedy.
Ryan Younggreen was a key player and the best on defense this week as Michael Gabriel's team beat D'Evelyn. The 6-foot-1 defensive back nabbed 2 interceptions.
Sommers was the most successful running back in 3A Northern this week. Teammate Younggreen added to the ground attack by rushing for 130 yards.
Blaise put up the best numbers in passing as Jesus Escobedo's team bested Richard Martinez's team.
He was 19-32 with 0 interceptions.
6-foot-1 quarterback Blaise of the Spartans is the league leader in passing yards this season with 535. He has also thrown 6 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Erb. The Holy Family star has 15 catches for 300 yards.
Denver North fell to Lutheran 49-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Cesar Escobedo ran for 25 yards and caught 1 passes for 10 yards in the defeat.
