The Franklin Academy Patriots's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They fell just short of East Wake Academy by a score of 30-27. Franklin Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as East Wake Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.
When it comes to explaining why Franklin Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Sarah Godwin. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. That was a full 48.1% of Franklin Academy's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Emma Roche was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 17 rebounds for East Wake Academy. Roche hasn't dropped below two blocks for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Reese Butler, who scored nine points.
Franklin Academy has not been sharp recently as the team has lost eight of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season. As for East Wake Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 8-9.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Research Triangle the next time they take the court. East Wake Academy will head out to face Research Triangle at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Franklin Academy will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
