The St. Thomas Catholic Eagles put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They really took it to Walnut Grove for the full four quarters, racking up a 70-35 victory on the road. The result was nothing new for St. Thomas Catholic, who have now won four matches by 28 points or more so far this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. Thomas Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Donte Lewis, who threw for 292 yards and six touchdowns while completing 81.5% of his passes, and also rushed for 153 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries. Lewis' longest rush was for an incredible 91 yards. Luke Edgecomb was in the mix too, providing St. Thomas Catholic with four touchdowns.
St. Thomas Catholic's defensive line stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Dominic Ori and his two sacks.
When it comes to explaining why Walnut Grove lost, one person who can't be blamed is Braden Butler. Despite the final result, he threw for 345 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 115 yards on only 13 carries. Jax Stewart was another key contributor, picking up 182 receiving yards and a touchdown.
St. Thomas Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 8-0. As for Walnut Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.
St. Thomas Catholic will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Pius X at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Pius X is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. Walnut Grove will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Central Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th.
