Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley had lost seven straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 8-10 to make it eight. They took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Villa Grove Blue Devils. The Falcons were not able to make up for their defeat to the Blue Devils from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.
Izzy Gawthrop was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases.
In other batting news, Taylor Beck made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Mallory Rosendahl was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
As for Villa Grove, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.
On Villa Grove's side, Piper Kiser spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on six hits.
At the plate, Villa Grove got a big performance out of Izzy Dodd, who went 2-for-4 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Ella Schweighart, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley will face off against Tremont at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Turks will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Falcons surely won't give up without a fight. As for Villa Grove, they will challenge Heritage at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
