If the Leadership Academy Falcons were feeling good off their 74-38 takedown of the Triad Math and Science Academy Bengals last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Leadership Academy fell 64-57 to Carver on Wednesday. Leadership Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Carver apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Leadership Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Will Martin, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Martin has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times he's played. Landon Burleyson was another key contributor, scoring 19 points.
Leading Carver to victory were Jonathan Gakeri and Jeremiah Glaspie. Gakeri dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds, while Glaspie dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Gakeri scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Derick Reid Jr., who scored two points.
Leadership Academy's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 7-6. As for Carver, their win bumped their record up to 5-7.
Leadership Academy will look to defend their home court on Friday against College Prep & Leadership Academy at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully College Prep & Leadership Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Wednesday. As for Carver, they will head out on the road to square off against Millennium at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Millennium has now lost ten straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 13.
