The St. Brendan Sabres will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart Cyclones at 5:00 p.m. on January 16th. Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on St. Brendan, who comes in off a win.
St. Brendan put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 64-23 victory over Sunset. Given St. Brendan's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 239th, while Sunset is ranked 515th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. Brendan to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaden Castro, who scored 17 points. Castro has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last five times she's played. Gianna Vindigni was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Meanwhile, Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell to Monsignor Pace 65-59. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Alissa Azcuy, who scored 20 points along with seven assists and two steals. She has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kaira Borges, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart were working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monsignor Pace only posted ten assists.
St. Brendan has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. As for Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-5.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's contest: St. Brendan have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.8 threes per game. It's a different story for Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, though, as they've been averaging only 5.8 threes per game. Given St. Brendan's sizeable advantage in that area, Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart will need to find a way to close that gap.
St. Brendan lost to Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart on the road by a decisive 58-43 margin in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart's Sela Travieso, who dropped a triple-double on 31 points, ten rebounds, and 11 steals. Now that St. Brendan knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
