The Hughes BIG RED's four-game losing streak came to an end on Tuesday. They strolled past New Richmond with points to spare, taking the game 61-47. The win was just what Hughes needed coming off of a 70-50 loss in their prior matchup.
Hughes' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Elijah Engleman led the charge by scoring 16 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Engleman hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games. Silas Scott was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with two steals.
Hughes now has a winning record of 8-7. As for New Richmond, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.
Hughes will square off against Newport Central Catholic at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for New Richmond, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Batavia at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. Batavia has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 236 points over their last four matches.
