The Naples Classical Academy will head out on the road to challenge Everglades City at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Naples Classical knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine games -- so hopefully Everglades City likes a good challenge.
Naples Classical pushed their score all the way to 66 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. The contest between Naples Classical and Oasis wasn't particularly close, with Naples Classical falling 80-66. While losing is never fun, Naples Classical can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 725th, while Oasis is ranked 355th).
Despite the loss, Naples Classical saw an underclassman step up: Daniel Coldiron scored 31 points. That was a full 47% of Naples Classical's points, marking the seventh time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Colman Gillen was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Everglades City suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Thursday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 76-50 walloping at the hands of Donahue Catholic. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Everglades City has suffered against Donahue Catholic since January 19, 2021.
Naples Classical's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-11. As for Everglades City, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season.
Naples Classical came up short against Everglades City when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 63-59. Can Naples Classical avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
