Berkley is 9-1 against Athens since December of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Berkley Bears will head out on the road to take on the Athens Red Hawks at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Berkley has six straight wins, Athens has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Friday, Berkley was able to grind out a solid win over Shrine Catholic, taking the game 48-35. Given Berkley's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 157th, while Shrine Catholic is ranked 406th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Berkley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Maeve Nolan, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Hailey Kirkwood, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Athens was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Thursday as they fell 41-35 to Adams.
Berkley is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. As for Athens, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.
Berkley didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Athens when the teams last played back in January, but they still walked away with a 54-49 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Berkley since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
