The Big Foot Chiefs will head out to face off against the Brodhead Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Big Foot is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.2 runs per game this season.
Big Foot was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Edgerton on Thursday. The Chiefs blew past the Crimson Tide 20-3. The Chiefs have beaten the Crimson Tide the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Crimson Tide has come to flipping the script.
The team relied heavily on Lily Wolf, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Natalie Klamm, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.
Big Foot was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Brodhead took on Clinton on Thursday. The Cardinals sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over the Cougars. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cardinals have posted since May 28, 2024.
Ava Risum was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Risum wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Leah Rear, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. Mady Henning also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Brodhead's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Big Foot, their record is now 8-4.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Big Foot hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .395. However, it's not like Brodhead struggles in that department as they've averaged .327. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Big Foot came out on top in a nail-biter against Brodhead in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 4-2. Will the Chiefs repeat their success, or do the Cardinals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
