Softball Recap: Cathedral Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

With a playoff win on the line, Cathedral rose to the challenge on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Lebanon Tigers a 13-0 shutout. The Fighting Irish might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 matches by seven runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Anna Moore, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. Angie Valentine was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Cathedral was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lebanon only posted a batting average of .286.

The victory (which was Cathedral's third in a row) raised their record to 26-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lebanon, the loss snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 23-11 record.

Coming up, Cathedral will square off against New Palestine at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Dragons will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Fighting Irish surely won't give up without a fight. Lebanon does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
