After flying high against Maple Valley last Tuesday, Springport came back down to earth. The Springport Spartans took a 67-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Concord Yellowjackets on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Yellowjackets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 70-39 back in January.

Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Reese Siefert, who went 6-for-9 en route to 15 points and eight rebounds. Springport is 2-1 when Siefert posts 15 or more points, but 6-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Chloey Speer, who posted 12 points and six assists.
Even though they lost, Springport smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Concord only seven offensive boards.
Concord's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Grace Thorrez led the charge by going 7-for-13 to rack up 18 points and six boards. Thorrez continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cieara Barrett, who earned 18 points and six assists.
Springport has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season. Concord pushed their record up to 16-4 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home.
Springport wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 58-46 loss against Bronson on the 17th. As for Concord, they will take on Union City at 7:00 p.m. on February 21st.
