Softball Recap: Hart Triumphs

Hart had won three straight on the road, but on Thursday they bumped their record up to 7-3 to make it four. They won by a run and slipped past the Onekama Portagers 7-6. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Portagers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Reese Smith spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Makenna Carrier, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Maryn Klotz, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

As for Onekama, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2. They haven't had much luck with Hart recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

On Onekama's side, they also let their pitcher toss all six innings played and she was also dialed-in: Hailey Hart gave up only one earned (and six unearned) runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. Hart has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Jasmine Lapp and Heather Zielinski did some serious damage despite the final result: Lapp went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Zielinski went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Aleah Blackmore was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Hart has already played their next contest (against Orchard View), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Onekama, they are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will take on Suttons Bay at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
