The Santana Sultans will square off against the Mira Mesa Marauders at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Santana made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Academy of Our Lady of Peace, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Santana was the clear victor by a 7-1 margin over Academy of Our Lady of Peace on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Sultans, who have now won three contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Bella Zuckerman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single earned run, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, McKenna Miller was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Samantha Mora was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
Miller wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Santana kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Mira Mesa had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They never let Mission Vista get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. That's two games straight that the Marauders have won by exactly ten runs.
Brooklyn Haug was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Isabel Novak was a standout: she scored two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Taylor Lao, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
The victory made it two in a row for Santana and bumps their season record up to 6-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Mira Mesa, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.
Santana took their win against Mira Mesa in their previous matchup back in February by a conclusive 10-0. Does Santana have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mira Mesa turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
