Westbrook is headed into Thursday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their tenth straight game on Tuesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Falmouth.
Connor Girard and Kyle Brown did some serious damage despite the final result: Girard went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Brown went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. That double was Girard's first of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Portland). Everything went their way against Portland on Tuesday as they made off with a 12-2 win. The Red Riots have beaten the Bulldogs the last seven times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bulldogs has come to flipping the script.
Hudson Iacuessa made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Ben Morin looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, Corbin Voisine was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Easton Healy, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI.
South Portland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Westbrook's defeat dropped their record down to 1-11. As for South Portland, their victory bumped their record up to 8-4.
