Wadley extended their losing streak to six on Tuesday, dropping them down to 2-8. They came up short against the Woodland Bobcats, falling 14-7. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Wadley saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Landon Howe, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Another was Trent Reece, who earned one run and two stolen bases.
As for Woodland, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-7. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Woodland's side, Connor Sheppard and Jackson Smith made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Sheppard struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Meanwhile, Smith pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Woodland is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-7 otherwise. At the plate, Sheppard got on base in two of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Smith went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Sheppard is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, Garrett Hendrix was a standout: he got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tripp Morin, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
While Wadley had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
