Cal Lemmons was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, nine RBI, and two runs. He has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Brady Walters, who scored five runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Portage strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They walked away with a 9-5 win over South Central. While the Indians didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
The team relied heavily on Tyler Pirowski, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Brody Braden was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
Portage always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .514 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Portage's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Morgan Township, they now have a losing record of 1-2-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Morgan Township has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Portage struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Morgan Township might still be hurting after the 22-13 loss they got from Portage when the teams last played back in May of 2022. Will the Cherokees have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
