After flying high against the Alexander Spartans last Thursday, the Logan Chieftains came back down to earth. Logan fell 59-49 to Marietta on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Logan can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 409th, while Marietta is ranked 19th).
Logan's loss came despite strong showings from Makenzie Daubenmire and Dani Mahaffey. Daubenmire scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and four blocks, while Mahaffey scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Those seven rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Josie Sigler was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Logan were working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Logan has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season. As for Marietta, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.
Logan will be home for the holidays to greet Athens at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Athens focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Monday. Marietta will take on Fairfield in a holiday battle at 12:30 p.m. on Friday at.
