If the First Academy Eagles were riding high off their 54-22 takedown of the St. John Lutheran Saints on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. First Academy took a 61-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Meadowbrook Academy on Thursday. First Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Meadowbrook Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2016.
Meadowbrook Academy was led to victory by Gaige Daugherty and Tico Smith. Daugherty scored 16 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 steals, while Smith scored 22 points. The matchup was Smith's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jonathan Fonseca, who scored 9 points along with 8 rebounds.
First Academy's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Meadowbrook Academy, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
First Academy will be playing in front of their home fans against Crooms Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Crooms Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Tuesday. As for Meadowbrook Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Taylor at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Taylor focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Thursday.
