Jordan will challenge Green Hope at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Green Hope will be up against a hot Jordan team: the squad just extended their winning streak to six. The Falcons put the hurt on Apex Friendship with a sharp 28-7 victory on Friday. With the Falcons ahead 21-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Landon Melton had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 309 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 14.7 yards per attempt, and also rushing for 108 yards and one TD on only ten carries. His longest rush was for an incredible 76 yards. Damien Hayes was another key player, gaining 166 total yards and a touchdown.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Jordan proved: they limited Apex Friendship to a paltry 1.9 yards per carry. The team can thank Lareun Wilson for the heroic effort on defense: he. Jordan's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 5.1.
Meanwhile, while Green Hope put up some points on Friday, the same can't be said for Apex. The Falcons really took it to the Cougars for the full four quarters, racking up a 27-0 win. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 130th, while the Cougars are ranked 266th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jordan better keep an eye on Nicholas Goulet. He was instrumental in Green Hope's win, throwing for 252 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 83.3% of his passes.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Green Hope's defense and their eight sacks. In that department, Kody Hutchins was the leader with three. Green Hope got some further help from Jacob Brown: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made five total tackles (2.5 for loss).
Jordan's victory bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Green Hope, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
Friday's matchup might be decided in the trenches. Jordan has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 201.5 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Green Hope, though, as they've been averaging only 96.7 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Jordan ended up a good deal behind Green Hope when the teams last played back in April of 2021, losing 31-14. Can Jordan avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
