Having just played yesterday, the Patriot Pioneers will jump right back in to play the Woodgrove Wolverines at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Patriot has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while Woodgrove will arrive with ten straight victories.
On Thursday, Patriot took a serious blow against Connelly School of the Holy Child, falling 59-30. While losing is never fun, Patriot can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 156th in Virginia, while Connelly School of the Holy Child is ranked 18th in Maryland).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Maysa Bilal, who scored nine points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Cheyenne Sweeney, who scored seven points.
Woodgrove has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 26 points or more this season. They claimed a resounding 113-33 victory over Surrattsville on the road. Woodgrove's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Patriot's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Woodgrove, their win bumped their record up to 10-0.
Patriot suffered a grim 68-42 defeat to Woodgrove in their previous matchup back in December of 2021. Can Patriot avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
