West Stanly is 9-1 against Parkwood since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Colts will square off against the Wolf Pack at 4:30 p.m. West Stanly is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
While West Stanly's victory against North Brunswick wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Colts had just enough and edged out the Scorpions 6-5 last Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but the Colts sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Madi Whitley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, West Stanly got a big performance out of Payton Watson, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one double. Another player making a difference was Laney Tucker, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, while Parkwood put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Anson. The Wolf Pack put the hurt on the Bearcats with a sharp 12-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Wolf Pack, who have now won eight games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Chloe Purgason tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brinley Parker, who went 2-for-3 with two triples, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Grayce Marvel, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Parkwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
West Stanly pushed their record up to 19-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. As for Parkwood, they now have a winning record of 11-10.
Parkwood's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. West Stanly has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Parkwood, though, as they've been averaging only 3.7 strikeouts. Will West Stanly keep running through batters, or will the Wolf Pack buck the trend?
West Stanly took their win against Parkwood when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 13-1 score. Will the Colts repeat their success, or do the Wolf Pack have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
