II Section III recap Oct. 30, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Shadow Mountain, who took down 77th ranked Shadow Mountain, 50-17.
Chaparral extended the longest winning streak in II Section III this week by beating Saguaro, 38-20. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
Charlie Quinn was the best wideout in the league this week as Horizon topped Notre Dame Prep. Quinn tallied five receptions for 110 yards. Spencer Marciniak helped Horizon's passing attack out by catching one ball for 46 yards.
Jared Tiefenthaler made the biggest impact on defense this week as Prescott lost to Mountain Ridge. The 6-foot-1 junior racked up one sack.
Skylor Clinton put up the best numbers through the air as Bradshaw Mountain fell to Kingman. He finished with a total of 18 completions for 253 yards and two touchdowns. Clinton's favorite target this week was Michael Van Dyke, who caught three passes for 79 yards.
Mauriece Lee was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 27 carries, he ran for 119 yards as Marcos de Niza beat the Saints. Teammate Jacquese Moore added to the ground attack by rushing for 91 yards.
5-foot-10 quarterback Bryce Kinsler of Cactus Shadows is the league leader in passing yards this season with 2272. He has also thrown 16 touchdowns. On the ground, the Badgers' Brady Mengarelli has rushed for 1863 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Paul Elvira. The Marcos de Niza star has 52 catches for 1185 yards.
The Padres' Lee needs only 88 yards against Fairfax next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Lee has rushed for 912 yards on 104 carries so far this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Chaparral takes on Perry. At the moment, Dave Huffine's team is in fifth, while the Pumas are in fourth.
Goldwater took down South Mountain 41-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
