The Sacred Heart Knights will head out on the road to face off against the Sedgwick Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sacred Heart is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Sacred Heart never got on the board in their matchup two weeks ago, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Republic County last Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Buffaloes 51-20 at home.
Sacred Heart can attribute much of their success to Cameron Cleveland, who rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Cleveland was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 50 yards. Michael Matteucci also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Sedgwick entered their tilt with Marion with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Sedgwick snuck past Marion with a 34-28 victory on Friday.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sedgwick to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tray Schroeder, who rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 14 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. Jeff Nold also helped out as he racked up 120 receiving yards.
Sedgwick's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Austin Thieme and his three sacks.
Their wins bumped Sacred Heart to 2-6 and Sedgwick to 7-1.
Sacred Heart was dealt a bruising 44-14 loss at the hands of Sedgwick when the teams last played back in October of 2015. Thankfully for Sacred Heart, Grant Hilliard (who rushed for 137 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 277 yards and two touchdowns while completing 81% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
