The Mount de Sales Academy Sailors will square off against the John Carroll Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mount de Sales Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Mount de Sales Academy earned a 9-6 win over Catholic. The victory continues a trend for the Sailors in their matchups with Catholic: they've now won four in a row.
Mount de Sales Academy let Kat Wright and Maya Schipske run wild. Wright got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Schipske went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs Wright has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Berger, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, John Carroll posted their closest win since March 17th on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out McDonogh 4-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Patriots.
Emily Hildt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, John Carroll saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Billi Heinz, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Mount de Sales Academy's victory bumped their record up to 13-6. As for John Carroll, their win bumped their record up to 11-5.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Mount de Sales Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .447. However, it's not like John Carroll struggles in that department as they've averaged .455. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
